Formally known as the Busselton Half Ironman, will be contested on Saturday the 7th May 2011 as part of the annual SunSmart Busselton Festival of Triathlon.
The Festival of Triathlon incorporates various forms of sporting and lifestyle activities from Thursday 5th May, culminating in the International Ironman 70.3 Busselton Triathlon, competed over a course of a 1.9 klm swim, 90.1 lkm cycle and a 21.1 klm run.
Overview & History:
In 2002, the WA Long Course Triathlon Championships found a new home in Busselton after 17 years at Rottnest Island and a year in Margaret River. From that time the event has grown in stature and participants each year. The Busselton Half Ironman Triathlon was the largest event of it's type in Australai and as a Ironman 70.3 event, it is anticipated it will continue to be the largest and most popular event of it's type in Australai and one of the best in the Asia Pacific Region.
This events profile will significantly expand on the international calendar of Triathlons across the Asia Pacific Region and the World, with qualifying spots for the Ironman 70.3 Asia pacific Championships in Phuket and the Ironman 70.3 World Cahampionship in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event takes place in Busselton with the Swim in Geographe Bay alongside the 'iconic' Busselton Jetty, the transition area and Expo Village in Barnard Park, the cycle course through the Tuart Forests on Layman Road & Tuart Drive, into the Shire of Capel and the Run Course along the foreshore of Busselton.
